Photos & Updates from the Shipping of Blockade Billy
We’ll use this page to post some photos and updates about the shipping of the 1st Edition, 1st Printing of Blockade Billy by Stephen King, but mostly we’ll be processing orders, printing labels, packing books, and shipping as fast as we can!
Monday, April 26, 2010, 7:29 AM Update:
As of this morning, Mindy has finished processing all of the “new” US orders since the book began shipping, so we’ll be shipping those orders today and tomorrow. We are working our way through the thousands of Non-US orders, but it will take time. Thanks for your continued patience!
Thursday, April 22, 2010, 1o:48 PM Update:
We’re now into “this week” for US orders and also working on the Non-US preorders. Thanks for your continued patience!
Wednesday, April 21, 2010, 10:31 PM Update:
We are now over 98% done shipping the US preorders and we’ll finish the stragglers tomorrow when we start shipping the “new” orders from this week. We’ve also started on the Non-US customers. For Non-US customers, if you originally paid via PayPal you will need to pay your shipping invoice before your copy ships. We will send you that PayPal invoice as we reach your order. (Credit card orders will be charged automatically as we get to your order. We will contact you if there is a problem with your card.) Non-US shipments will take longer to prepare and process due to the customs paperwork and the additional trips to the post office required to ship them. Thank you for your patience.
Tuesday, April 20, 2010, 9:44 PM Update:
We are well over 90% done shipping the US orders and we’ve started on the Non-US customers. We have over 1,000 MORE Non-US orders for this title than we’ve ever had for any book in 22 years of publishing and it will take us time to get through them all. We appreciate your patience during this process!
Since we were starting on the Non-US orders this morning, it was only fitting that Les Ryan and Ruth Curran from the UK volunteered their services to pack for a few hours since they’re stuck in the States and unable to fly back to the UK. They were joined by Norman Prentiss again and everyone did a terrific job.
Monday, April 19, 2010, 8:02 PM Update:
Well, we’re not done for the day yet, but I figure now is as good as a time as any to update this page.
The local Postmaster — who, for the record, has always been awesome — went above and beyond today. He just showed up with a couple of empty mail trucks this afternoon. We had warned him of how much shipping we’d be doing this week, so he wanted to help make things move as smoothly possible. In the end, we only had to make one trip in the cargo van and the pick-up truck instead of the 3 or 4 trips we had planned for. He saved us a lot of time, which we were able to use to process another batch of orders.
Over 5,000 orders went out the door today, but as some people are discovering in their mailbox, we actually snuck about 500 orders to the post office on SATURDAY. One customer in Oregon somehow received his order this afternoon, which must be a record for media mail.
We couldn’t send shipping confirmation emails for this first batch of orders until this evening, but those emails are sending now. If you receive a shipping confirmation today, it means your copy has indeed gone out. If you receive the email tonight and you already received your copy, um… surprise!
Many more orders are going to be shipped tomorrow, which is the official publication date. In the meantime, here are two shots of Cemetery Dance magazine associate editor (and recent Bram Stoker Award winner!) Norman Prentiss packing in our warehouse. This is way outside his job description, but he happily drove up from the city to help anyway.
Sunday, April 18, 2010, 9:50 PM Update:
No new photos to post right now, but the tower of shipping containers by the dock door is really impressive. We’ll make sure we get a shot before we start loading a borrowed cargo van for the many trips to the post office tomorrow morning. We’ve packed about 4,000 orders now (many for multiple copies) and will be back at it bright and early tomorrow.
Saturday, April 17, 2010, 9:41 PM Update:
We started around 8 AM and most everyone is heading home now. We are making great progress on the orders (tons of processing is done and over 3,000 copies have been bagged) and we plan another long day for tomorrow. Please note that it is far too late to combine your orders, etc, and if you call or email asking for an update on where your order is in the process, that only takes away time we could be using to ship your order. Here are some new photos:
Friday, April 16, 2010 Update:
The books are here, we’re processing paperwork like crazy, and bubble-bagging of the books has begun. We have over 7,500 individual orders to ship (some for 2 or 3 copies) and we’ll be working all weekend to get them ready for next week. We have extra help coming in both Saturday and Sunday to assist with the packing process and we plan on working 12 hour days to get a head start on the week ahead. Below are some photos of the first box of books we opened, a couple of the pallets, etc.

Well done to the whole team at CD. My ‘hat is off ‘to you all for your commitment to your customers. Its exciting to see the photos of the work in progress – thanks for taking the time to take & display those. Your regular updates are also really good too – so many companies do not have such good communications with their customers. Sincere thanks for all your hard work – much appreciated.

I’m just going to say one thing… okay a couple things… but the main thing is this:
WOO HOO!!
another thing is this:
Big time Congratulations again Cemetery Dance!
I hope you are all smiling while packing these up.
In the meantime, I’ll be singing Crumbächer’s “Tame the Volcano” while doing a little ritualistic dance in honor of the overseas people that may have to wait extra long… but in order to do it right, I’ll need a virgin, and those are so dang hard to come by nowadays…

I’m so looking forward to my new addition to my SK collection!

FIRST & FOREMOST THANKS TO CD FOR THE HARD WORK THEY ARE DOING. YOU ARE THE BEST! AND OF COURSE SPECIAL THANKS TO THE EVER PRESENT HARDWORKING MINDY! THE TRUE BACKBONE OF CD!
WOW! The cover looks great – always did. LOVE THAT COVER! Too bad the card looks so blah… Topps made some great cards way back when & before them there was super looking stuff made but this card looks like one of those horrible cards made in the early 80′s when the bb card market exploded with Fleer, Don Russ, Score etc. – the card is very disappointing. So many wonderful old card designs to choose from & this is what they used? OH well really looking forward to reading King’s story AND you know the CD production values will be absolutely first rate as always. Thanks for all the work you do.
(WOULDN’T IT BE GREAT IF BILLY TURNS OUT TO BE A WOMAN & THAT’S WHY BASEBALL ERASES ALL EVIDENCE OF HER EXISTENCE? I JUST HOPE IT’S NOT ANOTHER PREVIOUSLY USED STAR TREK OR TWILIGHT ZONE EPISODE. COME ON STEVE KNOCK THIS ONE OUT OF THE PARK LIKE ONLY YOU CAN!

There’re much problems in this volcano-Ashes-issue from Iceland (sounds like a Stephen- King-Plot itself, if you ask me) at least in terms of passenger flights here in germany, don’t know what’s about airmail. All german airports have stopped the travelling…maybe even till sunday, ’cause the volcano blows out another load…wait and see!! …otherwise the sunset is nicer then ever due to this black clouds!!

Thanks for all of the kind words! We know we have the best customers in the business, and we’re doing everything we can to get all of you your copy ASAP.
Hey Bill! The card was actually designed to replicate the late 50s Topps designs to match the era during which it would have been issued. Let us know if you like it better when you actually receive it. It’s pretty cool.

It just happens that my wife and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary tomorrow and it appears I may be the first to type the following – we RECEIVED the book a few hours ago which will make THIS anniversary even more special. I try to insure that she gets every copy of everything Stephen writes so it was a given she would get it but to be one of the first certainly makes our day! THANKS Cemetary Dance!

I would just say that I love Cemetery Dance and Stephen King. I can’t wait for this book! (Since April 22 is my birthday it will make an awesome gift to myself!)
I am about “What did Billy do?” Maybe he sacrificed goats (or maybe even human beings) in order to have his baseball abilities?
Knowing Stephen King, it was probably very greusome!

April 20, 2010
Received notice yesterday that outbound mail from here at Ramstein Air Base is delaye duntil at least April 27th, and there was no known startup for inbound mail. Everything is stalled at Frankfurt, at there is literally no more storage for in/outbound mail so it’s all on hold until further notice … it won’t even leave New York to come here.

HEy Brian,
Thanks for reading the comments. That’s why CD is Topps. Pun intended but really you guys are GREAT. Yes I recognized it right away as the Topps 1957. I collected baseball cards till the 90′s. Topps started in 1951& really had their first “full” set in 52.
1952 & 53 were pretty nice (featuring oil painting portraits, 54 through 56 were great (hand tinted photos, 2 pics on front) really really nice. I know I probably sound like an asshole but 57 is their worst year from the 50′s & 60′s) BUT 57 is a highly sought after year – it was the first year Topps went to posed color photos unfortunately it’s also very dreary, dull & drab – (62 was the first year that Topps had sharp photos & natural color). 1958 was similar to 57 but the hand tint was back & they are an improvement 59 & 60 are really cool good looking cards too. Check them out I’m not making this up. Personally I’d have gone with the 54, 55 or 56. Ultimately who bought this for the card? Look forward to reading the story & you guys do a great job.
Brian Freeman
April 20, 2010

Hi, guys at CD. One can tell even from afar that you really are behind your product. It must’ve been good karma that let me discover your offer just in time, actually yesterday. If there were anything about your fabulously FAST… packing & shipping that could be improved upon, it would be for you to hire young ladies to do the packing, etc., and put them in the photos on this page, instead of the guys….
Oh, and I’m coming to you from about 70 miles northwest of Chicago, IL, which is where you shipped my copy to. Thanks, again!

Just finished the story and in my opinion it was one of Mr. King’s better works of late. It reads a lot like The Colorado Kid but was a better story. For those debating leaving the book shrink wrapped verses having to wait to read it. I loaded the free Kindle App on my PC and bought the kindle version of the book for $7.99 and read it on my PC. To my surprise it included the artwork, which is very nice and goes well with the story.

Steven King rocks and being a Red Sox Nation fan plus a New Englander makes this book even more popular but right now I think he hopes the Red Sox can play better than they are playing at this time. ..I think he probably thinks they should have kept Jason Bay bummer trading away a great hitter.

I have enjoyed your books, magazines, and grab bags that you have put out. It is always a great surprise to come home and have a box from Cemetery Dance waiting for me. Wondering if Secretary of Dreams will have a similar pen and ink of Francie that Glen Chadbourne did for me. It was one of the great grab bag items that I received.
Thanks for all of the hard work CD

I just ordered my copy of Blockade Billy and can’t wait to receive it.
I did recieve the Cemetary Dance magazine subscription as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it.
Anything and Everthing that Stephen King writes is the best!!
Thank you for all of your hard work and being so diligent in getting the books out quickly.
The anticipation is almost too much to bare..

I am going to have to grab myself a copy of this book. I have just gotten into Stephen King and really have loved the work that he has. I hope that this one will not disappoint. Thanks for the pictures, seeing the books being sent to loyal fans really gets me excited to read it and see if I fall in love with it like I have with his other books.
