Mick Garris

Mick GarrisAward-winning filmmaker Mick Garris has written or co-authored numerous feature films and teleplays, and he is Creator and Executive Producer of Showtime’s Masters of Horror series, as well as creator of the NBC series, Fear itself. He is well-known for his adaptations of Stephen King stories.

A Life in the Cinema, his first book, was a collection of short stories and a screenplay based on one of the included stories. His first novel, Development Hell, was published by Cemetery Dance in 2006. His screenplay and much supporting material for Riding the Bullet was published by Lonely Road Books in 2010. He has also published short fiction in numerous books and magazines.

Garris won a 1986 Edgar Award for an episode he wrote for the Steven Spielberg-produced television series Amazing Stories. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2006 New York City Horror Film Festival. He received the award in person after a screening of his Masters of Horror episode "Valerie on the Stairs."

He is currently prepping a feature film based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel Bag of Bones while working on a few Top Secret new projects with Cemetery Dance.

Garris lives in Studio City, California, with his wife, Cynthia, an actress, musician, composer and muse.
