The Secretary of Dreams What is the best way for me to order The Secretary of Dreams?

Volume One is long Sold Out, and commands high prices on the second-hand market, but you can order your Volume Two through our online store.

How much artwork is there in the books?

There are approximately 250 pages of brand new original artwork by acclaimed artist Glenn Chadbourne in each volume. Each volume has three of the stories are fully adapted into comic form (although every single one of King's words is still included!) and there are dozens of illustrations for the other three stories. Each book is packed full of artwork from the first page to the last!

Which editions will Stephen King be signing?

The deluxe Limited and Lettered Editions are both signed by Stephen King and artist Glenn Chadbourne.

Are The Secretary of Dreams books anything like the Creepshow trade paperback?

All in all, these two books are very different! Creepshow was around sixty pages in trade paperback, while each volume of The Secretary of Dreams will be approximately 250 pages as a deluxe oversized hardcover. Creepshow featured abridged adaptations of King stories, meaning that each story was shortened to fit into the book. The Secretary of Dreams will feature every single word of King's original stories — nothing is being left out. Even the stories that are adapted into comic form include every word of King's original manuscript... the words will just be presented in a different way than you've seen them before! In addition to the differences in the formats, The Secretary of Dreams Limited Edition and Lettered Edition were signed by Stephen King and artist Glenn Chadbourne. The Gift Edition, while unsigned, are housed in a custom-made slipcase to protect your investment.

What is a Gift Edition, and why does it cost more than the trade editions I normally buy in the bookstore?

Great question! The Gift Edition of The Secretary of Dreams is an oversized hardcover featuring deluxe smyth-sewn binding; this is a stark difference from a trade hardcover with cardboard binding that you'll find in every bookstore in the country. Also, we're only printing 5,000 copies of this deluxe Gift Edition, whereas King's first printings are normally in the millions of copies! There are many millions of Stephen King fans out there, but only 5,000 of those fans will have this special hardcover in their collections! And finally, this edition features a custom-made slipcase to protect your investment — something you'll never find on a New York trade hardcover. If you're not sure what a slipcase is, click here to read our FAQ about them or visit our From A Buick 8 artwork and photo page to see a picture of the Gift Edition we published of that Stephen King book.

What are the differences between the Gift Edition, the Limited Edition, and the Lettered Edition of The Secretary of Dreams?

First, go to our From A Buick 8 artwork and photo page to see what our deluxe edition of that Stephen King title looked like. It'll also give you some idea of the differences between the Gift, Limited, and Lettered for a Deluxe Edition presentation — this definitely isn't what you're used to finding in your local bookstore!

The Gift Edition features oversized pages and it is protected inside a custom-made slipcase. There are only 5,000 copies of this edition produced (compared to the millions of copies a Stephen King first printing normally receives) for each volume.

The Limited Edition is a very rare state of the book — only 750 copies are sold to the public! This edition is protected in a deluxe custom-made traycase and it features a special "signature sheet" that is signed by Stephen King and Glenn Chadbourne. Each sheet is hand numbered so that your copy is unique. That means, if you own copy 19 of 750, you are the only person in the world with that number. Also, these signature sheets are *really* signed by the contributors. No stamps or auto-pens are used.

The Lettered Edition is housed in a custom-made deluxe traycase — a real work of art! This edition is the rarest state of the book by far, with only 52 copies available to the public. The Lettered Edition features different binding and a different signature sheet than the Limited Edition. Each signature sheet is personally signed by the contributors (King and Chadbourne), and each sheet is hand lettered, The Secretary of Dreamsmaking your copy unique.

Why do you have to charge shipping for this book?

This book is oversized in design and every edition is either slipcased or traycased, which requires us to use larger than normal shipping boxes and extra packing material. Also, every package we send via UPS is insured to protect your investment.

Is this title a Cemetery Dance exclusive? Are other editions planned?

Right now there are no official plans to publish this book in any other form. We wouldn't be surprised if another edition is published down the road, but it'll be after our deluxe Limited Edition is Out of Print.

Will there be further volumes of The Secretary of Dreams?

We published a second volume in October 2010. You can read more on the product page.

How do I get matching numbers on future volumes?

We haven't yet decided on the best way to handle these requests, but we'll provide that information when we announce the second volume.

Can't I find all these stories in cheap paperbacks on eBay?

Yes, that's definitely true, but those editions don't have the hundreds of illustrations, the deluxe design and binding, or any of the other special features only available in The Secretary of Dreams. This book presents a totally different reading experience than any other publication of the stories.
