About This Title:
"Bone Harvest"
by James Moore
Earlier this month we printed a special promotional chapbook entitled "Bone
Harvest", an 9,000 word original short story by James Moore, but only 100
copies will be made available to the general public. This chapbook was designed
by Keith Minnion of White Noise Press and they look spectacular! These are ALL
signed by James Moore and hand-numbered, making each copy a unique collectible.
This special chapbook includes "Gathering the Bones: A Foreword" in
which the author explains the hidden threads connecting all of his work.
About "Bone Harvest" by James Moore:
Weeks after Hurricane Katrina, Max returns to the devastation of New Orleans
to bury the woman he once loved. But in death, he discovers more about her than
he ever knew in life: how she was involved with a mysterious, feared organisation;
how that organisation is still alive and thriving in the ruins; and how, if
Max immerses himself in the city's hidden magic, there may be a chance for him
to get her back.
Excerpt from the introduction:
Bone Harvest was written in part as an introduction to the novel Harvest Moon.
Ironically enough, the novel Harvest Moon was written as a sequel of sorts to
the short story by the exact same name. I have, from time to time, written short
stories that were meant to link to my novels, but in this case, it was the first
time I'd ever written a novel that linked back to one of my earliest works.
"I have a long-lasting love of Halloween and all things related
to it. Look at my list of credentials and I suspect that becomes apparent. I
have, to date, written three novels and several short stories that are related
to All Hallows Eve. Harvest Moon was the first short story I ever wrote
that was set in a particular season and definitely the first to revolve around
October 31st...."
Excerpt from the story:
He ran as hard as he could, pumping his legs furiously and praying to God that
he could get away. Whatever it was that chased him sounded big, and he had no
desire to see it.
The early spring's chill embraced the world and Reggie Harker
was lost in the bitter weather, lamenting that he'd ever come to Beldam Woods.
The town was picturesque and everything he thought he was looking for, but that
was before he'd pissed off something that was most decidedly not human.
Whatever the hell it was, it wanted to tear him apart. Just like it had torn
Natalie to pieces....
