About This Title:
Sims (Book One: La Causa)
by F. Paul Wilson
Artwork by Phil Parks
Sims is a brand new three or four book series of novellas set in F.
Paul Wilson's monstrous new world!
Now enter the world of Sims...
Fifty genes separate humans from chimpanzees. Think about that. Out of thousands
upon thousands of genes in both genomes, a mere fifty vary. And think about
someone altering the chimp genome, splicing in human genes to increase the size
of the cranium, reduce the amount of body hair, enlarge the frame. What sort
of creature would result?
Sims takes place in a world exactly like our own, except that the science
is perhaps twenty-five years ahead of what we presently know. A world in which
most simple manual labor is done by sims genetically-altered chimps who occupy
a gray-zone between simian and human. The Microsoft of this brave new world
is SimGen, which owns the patent on the sim genome and leases the creatures
worldwide.
Patrick Sullivan, a labor relations attorney of questionable ethics, is living
the good life until he decides, on a whim, to see if he can make a few bucks
by unionizing a group of sims. In so doing he sets in motion huge forces that
will turn his world upside down. As everything he believes is revealed to be
a lie, Patrick becomes a player in a violent, deadly unseen war to peel away
the layers of conspiracy that shroud the monstrous secret of the sims, a secret
SimGen and the power behind it will do anything to protect.
