He\u2019s also got a story, \u201cDearly Beloved,\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cemeterydance.com\/shivers-viii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Shivers VIII<\/em><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a great way you could sample a stand-out story from the collection. LeVar Burton, of <em>Reading Rainbow<\/em> and <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em> fame, performed the opening story, \u201cKin,\u201d on the very first episode of his podcast series, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeVar Burton Reads.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The podcast, which includes the Hugo-nominated story \u201cKin\u201d in full, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stitcher.com\/podcast\/stitcher\/levar-burton-reads\/e\/episode-1-kin-by-bruce-mcallister-50456426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is available to listen free<\/a> at the Stitcher website.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The story \u201cKin\u201d has been getting a lot of attention&#8212;and keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming announcement about another cool way to experience this story\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other notable facts about stories included in this eBook:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stephen King chose \u201cThe Boy in Zaquitos\u201d to appear in his 2007 guest-edited volume of\u00a0<em>Best American Short Stories<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDream Baby\u201d was a finalist for both the Nebula and the Hugo awards. \u201cKin\u201d was also nominated for a Hugo.<\/li>\n<li>In the late &#8217;80s and early &#8217;90s, the collection\u2019s title story, along with \u201cDream Baby,\u201d earned McAllister the reputation as one of the field\u2019s male feminist writers.<\/li>\n<li>The collection includes McAllister\u2019s first published short story, \u201cThe Faces Outside,\u201d written at 16 years old, published in <em>IF<\/em> and later earning the honor of appearing in Judith Merrill\u2019s\u00a0<em>Year&#8217;s Best Science Fiction<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The book also features story notes that reveal each story&#8217;s origin as well as the influences&#8212;both literary and human&#8212;on the author&#8217;s life and writing career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, let LeVar Burton read one of Bruce McAllister\u2019s stories to you, then check out the full eBook collection, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cemeterydance.com\/the-girl-who-loved-animals-and-other-stories-ebook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Girl Who Loved Animals<\/em><\/a>!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Norman Prentiss\u00a0is Editor, Electronic Books Division with Cemetery Dance Publications.
