She is a blind author and writes poetry, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy. Her debut novel <em>HUNTED: The Immortal\u2019s Kiss<\/em> cowritten with Luna Nyx Frost is available on Amazon. She has had several poems featured in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maryland\u2019s Best Emerging Poets 2019 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Z Publishing and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fae Thee Well: An Anthology<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rogues and Rebels: An Anthology<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> both published by Dreampunk Press. Her inspiration comes from nature, the fantasy and paranormal literature, classic musicals such as <em>The Phantom of the Opera<\/em> and <em>Wicked<\/em> and of course, her favorite music ranging from showtunes to punk rock. Emberly also loves reading about magic, mythology, faeries, witches, and dragons. Her newest collection is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ignited Melodies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ignited Melodies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reads very much like a first collection of poetry, in that there\u2019s no overarching theme or narrative, but a collection of individual poems gathered. As such, it\u2019s not a pure horror collection, but there is plenty of horror poetry to be found between these covers. For example, \u201cThe Silent Predator,\u201d which begins with the lines<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blanketed by ink black darkness of night,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specks of moonlight illuminate the ominous abyss.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The witching hour looming in the distance<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slithering through the slumbering city streets.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The language here is decadent, full of consonance, and serves to overwhelm the reader with its lushness. Elsewhere, Summers writes horror persona poems, with much the same success. Her poem \u201cMonstrous Delights\u201d begins<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am a monster,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A vicious fiend.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feasting on the fear<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of brainless walking meat suits<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desperately clinging to fleeting<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some remnants of humanity.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here, again, we see Summers\u2019 distinctive rich, linguistic style, heavy with words, come forth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ignited Melodies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may not appeal to every horror reader, as many of the poems in the collection are not strictly horror. But for those willing to explore the haunted forests of Emberly Lily Summers\u2019 mind, there is plenty of horror to be found. Writing with language that is thick and dense, Summers pulls back the skin to her own private fantasies and nightmares, and invites us in for a taste.
