My <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onyxreviews.com\/king-joyland.html\">review of <em>Joyland<\/em><\/a> can be seen here. It will also appear in issue 70 of <em>Cemetery Dance<\/em> magazine, together with an interview with Charles Ardai, Hard Case Crime&#8217;s publisher.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the media appearances that are slated for next week to promote the two releases. Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett will be involved with some of them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monday, June 3rd:<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>The Today Show<\/em> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephenking.com\/news_archive\/article381.html\">Meet the Creators<\/a> (a live event at Apple&#8217;s NY Soho store that will be broadcast later in the week)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuesday, June 4th:\u00a0<\/strong><em>Morning Joe<\/em> and <em>Charlie Rose<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, June 5th:\u00a0<\/strong><em>All Things Considered<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Late Show with David Letterman<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Thursday, June 6th:\u00a0<\/strong><em>The Colbert Report<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Friday, June 7th:\u00a0<\/strong>SiriusXM Live Conversation with Mojo Nixon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>King has already done a few interviews about <em>Joyland<\/em>. Last weekend he was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parade.com\/15671\/kentucker\/summers-best-books-starring-stephen-king\/\">on the cover of Parade magazine<\/a>\u00a0(there&#8217;s a cool behind-the-scenes video online) and a couple of days ago he did a long interview with Terry Gross on NPR (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2013\/05\/28\/184827647\/stephen-king-on-growing-up-believing-in-god-and-getting-scared?ft=1&amp;f=1032&amp;sc=tw&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\" target=\"_blank\">On Growing Up, Believing in God and Getting Scared<\/a>). Some people have been complaining about the lack of an eBook edition of <em>Joyland<\/em> (for now at least). Charles Ardai wrote an essay that explained their rationale:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2013\/05\/29\/why-cling-to-the-past-exclusi.html\" target=\"_blank\">Why Cling to the Past? Exclusive essay by Stephen King&#8217;s publisher about Joyland<\/a>. There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=SXkelkL8yEM\">a 15-second teaser trailer<\/a> for the book on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephenking.com\/promo\/ghost_brothers_of_darkland_county\/soundtrack\/ibook_press_release.html\">Concord Music group has announced<\/a> that <em>Ghost Brothers of Darkland County<\/em> will be released as an illustrated digital book for iBooks on June 3rd. The comprehensive multimedia edition fuses the production&#8217;s story, soundtrack, artwork and video extras into a complete interactive experience. The <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/speakeasy\/2013\/05\/28\/listen-to-john-mellencamp-and-stephen-king-team-up-on-ghost-brothers\/\">soundtrack is streaming live<\/a> at The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not all that&#8217;s new. &#8220;Afterlife,&#8221; the story King read in its entirety at UMass Lowell last December, is in the &#8220;summer reading&#8221; issue of <em>Tin House<\/em> magazine. You can get it from the various online bookstores, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tinhouse.com\/blog\/magazine\">it&#8217;s only $15 straight from the publisher<\/a>, with free media mail shipping.<\/p>\n<p>And I assume you&#8217;ve already ordered a copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cemeterydance.com\/extras\/the-dark-man-by-stephen-king-slipcased-edition-already-50-sold-out\/\">The Dark Man<\/a>, the lavishly illustrated edition from CD that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glennchadbourne.com\/2013\/05\/30\/newspaper-article-about-glenn-and-the-dark-man\/\">showcases Glenn Chadbourne&#8217;s awesome art<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Then, on June 17, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coliloquy.com\/products\/hard-listening\/\">Coliloquy is publishing the eBook <em>Hard Listening<\/em><\/a>, which has a collection of essays and e-mail exchanges from members of the Rock Bottom Remainders. The iPad\/iBooks version is enhanced and interactive, with videos and audio files embedded in the text. There&#8217;s a great video of everyone in the green room getting a laught out of Mitch Albom&#8217;s Elvis wig. Steve is rolling on the floor with laughter.\u00a0It&#8217;s a funny and fun book. Also of note, there&#8217;s a new King short story. However, I won&#8217;t reveal the title because three other authors were tasked with writing a story in King&#8217;s style and readers get a chance to vote on which one they think is the real King. After you vote, you can see how other readers voted and, separately, how other Rock Bottom Remainders voted.\u00a0All author proceeds from the sales of <em>Hard Listening<\/em> will be donated to offset the late Kathi Kamen Goldmark\u2019s medical bills. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coliloquy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Hard-Listening-Excerpt.pdf\">You can read an excerpt here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And then, on June 24th, we get the premiere of <em>Under the Dome<\/em>. Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2013\/05\/under-the-dome-trailer-cbs-video\/\">a long trailer<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/live-feed\/under-dome-10-things-know-560750\">Hollywood Reporter&#8217;s\u00a010 Things to Know<\/a> about the series.<a href=\"http:\/\/j.mp\/16tpNqu\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pspublishing.co.uk\/forthcoming-titles-26-c.asp\">PS Publishing <\/a>has added two more 30th anniversary King editions to their roster, in addition to the already announced <em>Christine<\/em> and <em>Pet Sematary<\/em>. In 2014 they will issue <em>Thinner<\/em> and <em>Skeleton Crew<\/em>. There&#8217;s a strong Cemetery Dance angle here, too. Rich Chizmar has written the afterword for <em>Christine<\/em>, and I wrote one for <em>Pet Sematary<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Evans (<em>Captain America<\/em>) has been cast as the lead in Tom Holland&#8217;s adaptation of &#8220;The Ten O&#8217;Clock People.&#8221; Filming is expected to begin in Atlanta this fall. The John Cusack film <em>Cell<\/em> is also scheduled to begin filming in September.\u00a0Tod &#8220;Kip&#8221; Williams (<em>Paranormal Activity 2<\/em>) is directing.<\/p>\n<p>I attended the Dollar Baby Film Festival that was held in conjunction with Comicpalooza in Houston last weekend.
