Welcome to Summer Camp for Werewolves, a young adult horror-comedy starring Marsha. Marsha is a teen reporter who is going through the typical angst of growing up. She is invited to a summer camp where she thinks she can get her first major scoop. Little did she know that this camp is dedicated to helping teens become their best werewolf selves.

Not only do we get werewolf lore, queer love, and enough punny jokes to make me miss my Dad, but we also get a lot of heart in what it feels like growing up… different. As teens, our social acceptance is a huge part of our lives. We all go through the awkward stage and feel out of sorts. Now imagine having to deal with becoming a fierce werewolf as well!

Admittedly, this was a bit too young adult for my particular taste. I felt the characters seemed younger than their age bracket a lot of the time, but that is just my perception.

Blending 90s nostalgia with a cute coming-of-age werewolf story, this is a fantastic read that encapsulates identity, acceptance, and surviving that awkward transition from teen years to adulthood. Lovers of the light horror variety, where the human side shines brighter than the werewolves’ glistening fangs, dive on in and journey with Marsha as she finds her way.
