Skillute is one of those towns that has quickly become one to remember in horror fiction. It’s creeping like a tainted tide, inspired by Oxrun Station from Charlie Grant and Cedar Hill from Gary Braunbeck. The land has been poisoned, seeping into the soil of a town that should be long forgotten, but things that refuse to die grasp hold of the frayed threads of reality in this Pacific Northwestern hell. Good people still reside there, and S.P. Miskowski has made them pawns in her playground, a setting that never can shed the shadows which infect everything that breathes within.Continue Reading

Borderlands 7 edited by Thomas F. Monteleone and Olivia F. Monteleone!

A new addition to one of the most acclaimed horror anthology series of all time!

We are very pleased to report we WILL be getting copies of the signed Limited Edition hardcover of Borderlands 7, a new addition to one of the most acclaimed horror anthology series of all time!

About the Book:
Borderlands 7 is the current volume of the continuing anthology series that has garnered awards and praise for its contributors and editors for more than twenty-five years. It is a non-themed gathering of stories which push the boundaries of genre fiction with provocative tales of the surreal and the weird.

You will find no zombies, no serial killers, no vampires, no ghosts… or any other familiar genre tropes or icons within these pages. Borderlands fiction is typified by its absolutely untypical nature. The editors offer herewith a wide range of fiction varying in tone, length, style, and theme. The path to the Borderlands of contemporary, imaginative fiction is traveled by writers who believe they can write a story that is so unique and memorable it demands to be a part of this current volume. The result is a grand amalgam of respected masters, solid veterans, and bold newcomers.

After reading many hundreds of submissions, the editors are proud to present an All-Star cast.

And they are: Meghan Arcuri, Michael Bailey, Gary A. Braunbeck,  Michael Scott Bricker, Cory Cone, Roby Davies, John DeChancie. Louis Dixon, Caitlín R. Kiernan, Felicia Lee, Bentley Little, Lisa Mannetti, Richard Christian Matheson, Robert McCammon, Donna J. W. Munro, Stephanie Pendley Paul, Bill Pronzini, Stephen Mark Rainey, Lucy A. Snyder, Daniel Waters, Tim Waggoner, Paul Wilson, and Leo Zaccari.

Borderlands 5 and Borderlands 6 both won the Bram Stoker Award for Anthology. With such a line-up of talented writers,  Borderlands 7 is primed for a Three-Peat!

With almost magical timing, a letter shows up addressed to her but with a new title in front of her name— “Countess.” As it turns out, Alberta discovers that she is possibly the sole, living heir to a noble title, and a castle in Turin, Italy.Continue Reading

Dead Trees: Joe Bob Goes to the Bookstore

Joe Bob Briggs
Joe Bob Briggs

I first saw Joe Bob Briggs when he was on The Movie Channel. This was in 1986, before he even had his own weekly show on the network. My initial impression was something like, “Who is this chicken-fried cornball?” I was not much of a fan of redneck humor.

I didn’t give JBB a chance until I stayed up late one Friday to watch David Cronenberg’s The Brood. It was on The Movie Channel, and at first I was disappointed to see that hillbilly hayseed doing an introduction. I watched, not wishing to miss the opening credits of The Brood. I was taken aback when Joe Bob said some fairly astute things about David Cronenberg. He obviously wasn’t another braindead movie host going through the paces.Continue Reading

What could be bad about a workplace where you’re surrounded by books and intelligent colleagues, and you’re encouraged to pursue whatever niche interest catches your eye?

Turns out there’s a lot that can be bad about it. Continue Reading

Interview: Kealan Patrick Burke Confronts Fear….by Creating Fear

Author Kealan Patrick BurkeHorror writer Kealan Patrick Burke wants you to face your fears. His poetic and visceral prose have helped earn him a devoted readership since The Turtle Boy won the Bram Stoker Award in 2004. Frequently mentioned in the same breath as Josh Malerman, Stephen Graham Jones, and Paul Tremblay, Burke has managed to carve out a unique place for himself writing dark and terrifying work that gets under your skin in the best of ways. He has also laid claim to an often neglected form—the novella. In fact, some of his most popular works are not his novels—although he’s written five of them, and is finishing up a sixth—but his novellas Sour Candy, Jack & Jill, and Blanky, among others.Continue Reading
